This little person went to heaven this little person went to hell this little person went to purgatory and this little person has gone and this little person went 'weep, weep, weep' all the way home

Here's where you throw your thought-darts at the mind-dartboard in re: Mitch Albom's book, The Five People You Meet In Heaven.
Left a bit, right a bit, up a bit, down... fire!

Straightforward sort of book - sweet in places but the lack of any kind of cynicism felt a bit patronising. I briefly wondered if heaven was going to arrange a doorstep clap for life’s maintenance men.
I wanted to feel warmed by it but next to “the things they carried” or the ferociously cerebral infinite jest on alcoholism, this came over tame. I appreciated the gentleness of the concept though

As I mentioned on t'main thread, I read this and reviewed this in a blog a while back. I'm not going to read it again, but I will be cheeky & cut'n'paste my review from there (when I find it).
It was suggested to me by my sis-in-law who had just read it for *her* book group. She was the only person who disliked it. I did mention that I thought it would make a potentially good book group choice as I reckoned opinions would differ.

I was a bit disappointed if I’m fair. I think all the plaudits on the cover got my hopes up too much

I read this some years ago, and am not going to re-read. I remember really liking it, and feeling quite comforted by it. Perhaps I should re-read it... slim and bit a flimsy, yes, but ultimately harmless. I also read Tuesday with Morrie, which I liked but slightly less. I've given it an 8, as I think that's how I felt at the time.

I’m going to give it a 7 which is a bit harsh because it’s coherent and sweet but I expected too much. I think I may have given worse books 8 just because I appreciated a quick read at the time

I read bits of it in a bookshop on Saturday and rejected it. I also hated the cover. I was also annoyed as it took me a while to find it as they didn't have any copies on the shelf, but they did have it on one of their tables. Finally, I thought the author's name was Absalom, but it turned out to be Ablom, which is no sort of name at all. Also, writers shouldn't be called Mitch (unless short for Michener, as in James).
I think I should give it a 1 star review on Amazon on this basis.

I also used also too many times in the previous post, also.

Is it Ablom? Or Albom? Would this increase your score perhaps to ten stars?
