I've gone off the boil posting here - I'm not even sure that people really want to hear the sort of music that I love (feedback?) but every now and again I hear a record that is so brilliant I want others to hear it. Here's one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFZqB3ABfJ8 Martyn you have shared your passion for NS with us openly and perhaps those of us who are “just” fans rather than absolute aficionados have been quieter than usual lately - I include myself in that group. Please don’t stop sharing your love and insight into this world - keep the faith ❤️❤️ |

I don't think he is generally - a bit slow and slushy, but looks like he had at least one NS hit. Frankie Valli and 4S similar. 2 big NS hits that I know of, but also OTT show stuff + slow stuff. Yes, I'd agree with that RS. And as you say, quite a few artists who had commercial success had one (or more) records that were big on the NS scene, there were some proper oddities. The one I always think of in terms of wierdness is "You Don't Know Where Your Interest Lies", the original was penned by Simon & Garfunkel, but the Dana Valery version (she was an Italian waitress) is a Northern Soul anthem if ever there was one Just thinking Paul Anka ..... yeah, he had a couple didn't he? This was the big 'un. |

More wierdness: I was reading this morning about records from Canada that have been popular on the NS scene. There's not many really, despite one of the biggest collectors being located in Toronto. This is one that I distinctly remember buying in Blackpool in the late 70s, it was perfect for Wigan at the time, but hearing it today the vocal has a bit of a folky feel to it. Anyone else heard it before?? |

Here's another one that fits in with the "commercial artists who had a big 'un on the NS scene genre", they most likely never knew. I'm a bit surprised I've never posted it before, superb vocal and as blue-eyed as it comes. en.wikipedia.org |

It works and is genius! |

I don't think so DT. Such a thing would invariably invoke a lot of scorn.
