The Red Headed League is a special sort of silly. Go for that.

SPOILER ALERT - there's a mini-rant near the end of this week's podcast so savour that.

I did go for TRHL. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, it was shorter than my session so I'm into A Case Of Identity now. I've heard the client tell her tale and the solution has come back to me (I think) from the depths of time.
Women are so stupid (in these books, I mean. Not in reality, which gets us back to the problems that bother you I think, Mac).

I remembered it correctly, and once you know it's amazing how little is wasted in those descriptions.

I started (re)reading this yesterday and I've already read seven out of the twelve stories. It is not a difficult read.
A few years ago (early 2000s I suppose) I decided to read all the Sherlock Holmes books in order. Penguin did a very nice eight-book series. This is number three, the first collection of short stories (I think) after the novels A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of Four. At the time I whizzed through and really enjoyed them. I think my copy of TAoSH and the next book came on a ski trip with us.
It is now very strange to see it again. It's a bit like when you show your kids a film from the 80s. 'Look, you'll love this! It's got Michael J Fox in it!' and when you watch it with them you think, 'Oooh, this hasn't aged well...'
With the spotlight of reading this specifically for the Book Group, I can only see its flaws.

I started reading The Red Headed League last night but couldn't concentrate enough to ignore the MASSIVE FLAWS and lurid prose

A month off, no reading required. You could spend the time deducing some things.

I deduce that I shan't bother with any more Sherlock Holmes books. QED.
