Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Is a cook book DM a starter?

I think my most used are two or 3 HF-Ws, plus a further two or three JOs followed by an odd Delia.

Rick Stein fish gets a look in a long with Elizabeth David.

I quite liked McGuigan as a boxer and commentator.

We've also got the Sophie Grigson fish book. That's good. And don't mock but so are the first two Jamie Olivers.

Nothing wrong with a lot of Jamie's books. His earlier ones were better IMO but usually the recipes are well written and tend to work.

Agree. There's a pork-chop and parsnip one that works far, far better than the equivalent in one of the early Gary Rhodes books.

I absolutely love Jam ie's "At Home" book where he grows all his own veg. Used it as a guide for expanding our veg patch this year.

Now you've mentioned Gary Rhodes, he was a big hero of mine back in the day. After Floyd and before Rick. Eaten at several of his joints. Always follow his stuffing recipe for Christmas dinner (from Great British Classics). And his canon of lamb rolled with black pudding was something I cooked "a lot" back in the day when I had more time and more disposable income.

Most used is probably domestic goddess. Sorry about that I like cakes. Cleavage and smouldering and being matey with other chefs optional. I used one of the Nigel Slaters a bit too but mostly I cook off tinternet and recipe cards
