Hi Ally-C, I am friendly with the race organiser and have done all the D33s so far and I would agree with Boab, it is well organised and fun. Very flat and quite a lot of tarred path (they seem to do more tar each year). It hurts my itb every year but I love it. It's a very friendly event with lots of chat from runners and marshals all the way. And of course the fab handmade medal from MikeR's wife Annette.

You say you've only done two maras, that is no problem, I know folk who have done it without doing any marathons. It's like a long marathon really.

George is planning a D99+1 (he says it will be 100 miles since he knows a lot of folk would be put off if it was "only" officially 99 miles) in March 2019 which is the 10th anniversary. This will be in starting at 06:00 on the Friday, the D33 will start as usual on the Saturday at 09:00 and the cut off for the D99/100 will be 16:00 on the Saturday.

I think I will do the D99 although I know it will be tough since it will involve 14ish hours of darkness. At least there are some hills after Banchory. George hasn't confirmed the route but the speculation (between shanksi and me) is an out and back from Duthie Park to Ballatar.

Hope this helps :-)

Mrs S, is it one of those races that you've to be sitting fingers ready by the computer to sign up because it sells out?

Thanks for the info btw.

It has never sold out so far, don't worry about that. George normally sets it up to open entries some time on Hogmanay so most folk are usually too busy partying!

There is also a most excellent pub gathering the evening of the D33 in Stonehaven. To be honest it's the main reason I entered the last time around.

I've retired from ultra's i'm sure but not sure i could cope with 33m of tarmac - 26.2 is more than enough surely? ;-)
