I do it for some of my runs but not only for long runs. Last week I did 2.64 km at 1:30/ 0:40 though that was a bit unusual (I'd had a bug and was trying not to overdo it.)

Most of my logged r/ws recently have been runs with others where we just take some breaks rather than it being scheduled; other times I just might want to take it easy (including running a parkrun on a scheduled r/w (I think it was preceding a race)).

Currently all of my runs are run/walk I'm tail runner at parkrun so they are pretty slow, but I never have been a fast runner and run walk is quicker for me over most distances

Interesting points about heart rate. I also get cold quickly and have raynaud's so might struggle a bit at the moment, especially this weekend, it is very cold! After a week of no running due to an awful stomach bug, I am hoping to try a run/walk tomorrow. I need to cover about 15 miles, so will play with the ratios and see how it goes!

A quick question, I haven't really run for a few years, so I was thinking I'll give this a try to get these older bones moving again. I do the gym and cycle a bit. I was thinking of starting run a minute then walk a minute for a mile or two, would this work or is it a bit weak to start? I might find I'm weak :) :)

That sounds like a good plan, Jogger. Just play round with different times and see what suits you

Thanks FC I'll give it a go. It'll probably just be a mile to start with, no more than a warm up I suppose.

So I've been out with her goodself and we did a 2m run walk 1:1 is that how you write it? The pace was 13:52 but if that gets me back into running injury free, I'll be happy with that pace. It was fresh out there around the Chichester Harbour but it felt good......

Double your target distance already ;-) Well done :-).

I write it as 1/1, as ":" is usually in times.

For example 1:00/ 0:30 is clearer than 1:00: 0:30.

Or alternatively cheat like I do and always use the : as the Run:Walk separator.

Normally I work in minutes so 4:1 2:2 1:1 etc.

To avoid the : twice I revert to seconds, so 60:30 would be the split instead of 1:00:0:30
