I have entered this race but a little daunted after looking at the "you tube" of the course. I see a few fetchies have already signed up and wondered if anyone had any advice. It will be my 3rd Marathon!

I've entered too, Looby Loo, but it's the first time for me too. I know Pompey Paul had a great time last year. I'm sure someone will be along soon with some advice. Which bit is making you feel most daunted? |

It is a flat course but it depends on the weather - last year it was v muddy and frankly tedious underfoot. Combine this with the boring out and back and short stretches on the beach was enough to convince we I wouldn't bother again.

Think it was the beach parts which looked quite tough. Also my own fault but didn't realise it was out and back I am looking forward to it as a different challenge but just wondered is it much slower than a road course. I will wait for Pompey Paul! Thanks to you both. |

The beach parts are short. The first beach section is muddy in places, the second beach section has shingle but is short, I would guess 300m. And obviously you do them again on the way back in reverse order so you know what to expect then. It's flat as a pancake and has mixed terrain from pavements to trails to beach. I love it by I may be biased of course

The beach parts are quite short. For me it was about 5-10 mins slower than a typical road marathon. Lots of the 100 Clubbers return every year so my 'not again' opinion maybe a bit pessimistic.

Loved the course in 2012, didn't go there for a time and I would say not a pb course. The out and back was good I thought as you got support / supported runners heading the other way. Great organisation, ph is forgetting the rum shots to go with the brandy |
