I'm afraid the 'why are there loads of individual shrews when far more notoriously poisonous things like stingrays and rattlesnakes are all bundled into generic categories' has been asked.
The answer was some vague waffle about how things that are poisonous but sound like they really shouldn't be are interesting oddities.

The really concerning thing about this death match is not the prevalence of shrews but the flagrant disregard for the correct use of the term 'poisonous'.
Most entrants are venomous, not poisonous.
