I thought they were, jacdaw, but didn't like to risk being wrong and expose my ignorance! I guess they're different varieties.
Most of the brassica family seem to be the same species too, given their willingness to cross-pollinate?

I have a bare root climbing rose arriving soon - recommended by this thread - Madam Alfred Carrier.
I will be planting it where I currently have dahlias - they will go else where in the garden next year.
So I have 2 questions to the experts on here:
1) How soon after arrival do I need to plant the rose?
2) When should I dig up the dahlia - they just had their second frost but still have flowers. Is it possible to dig them up too soon?

Two species mostly MMM. Cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, kale, kohl rabi, cauliflower are all Brassica oleracea; turnips, some mustards and rapes, tatsoi, pak choy etc. are Brassica rapa. I think oil seed rape is a different species again.

You can just heel bare rooted shrubs into a temporary home if their final bed isn't ready, but they need to go in the ground as soon as possible in my opinion / experience.
I just kill dahlias, so won't advise on those...

I agree with heeling them in asap. Don't want them to catch cold, as my granny would say.

Dahlias: dig the up when the foliage has gone black. Re the rose: you can heel her in in the compost heap, or a bucket of potting compost. Re chard: I am at 180 metres and in a frost pocket and just picked some for supper. My plants will see me through a second winter

Worst is roots drying out! So they get heeled in her as soon as they arrive.

I have moved chard plants, in an experimental way, as I wanted the space they were growing in for growing something else. They survived. Can't remember if they all did, but certainly some did.
