Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I am doing Brighton marathon 15th April. I notice my last long long run of say 20 miles should be 3 weeks before however I am booked in on the ashby 20 which being 18th march is 4 weeks before. So would it be too much to do another 20 the following week and then start tapering ? My plan I should also do a 20 miler on the 11th march but as that's the week before ashby 20 I wasn't sure what to do ? The plan alternates between a 12 liked and a 20miler in march it doesn't ever have a 20 2 weeks on the trot ?????am v confused thanks

Looking at it now I think it's perhaps silly of me to do ashby the simplest thing would be to not but I am keen to get in a race to keep it interesting and Oakley 20 is 2 weeks before Brighton do is out

Either swap weeks to make it work, or do a 16/18 the week after Ashby depending on how you feel. Would be worth fitting the 20 race in, esp. if you've paid for it

I feel biggest single thing you can do to be well prepared for your first (or any) marathon is the long runs and the more 20`s (or beyond) you can fit keeping yourself injury free and not wiped out the better.

Just do it, the more 20s you do the better.

A good rule of thumb is to not do more miles for your long run than the days left to marathon. So three weeks before don't do over 21 miles, 2 weeks before don't exceed 14...

Thanks guys. I see in feb there is a 2 week run of 19 one week and 20 the next so I suppose it's doable after ashby.

well i'd be wanting to get to it prepeared and injury free

dont forget - loads of people who comment have done the marathon distance -

me personally, i'd be worrying or concentrating on just finishing a distance i 've never run

i'd be very careful on your build up to it -

Ashby is a tough little bugga - The March 20's are purposely put their for this very reasson to get one over HM distance and in tune for Aprils London etc

thats fine if ure a seaosned marathoner- but for a first - just think what your doing and dont over cook it

Two 20's won't kill you, but racing them both hard may hurt a lot & affect your marathon time.
