Hello,

Registration for the Mont Blanc Marathon opens tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone has experience of either the marathon or the cross? I hear it's very difficult to get a place in either event but I'll register anyway and see what it brings. I am a slow runner and will likely need the full 9hr limit so any hints and tips would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome Skyefrog. Go for it!

I ran the marathon 2 years ago, applied as soon as registration opened and didn't have any problems then.

It's a really fantastic event over a weekend of running. Loads of refreshment if you want it, I think I remember coke, fruit, salami, god knows what. Lots of friendly runners all through the field (I had friends running at different speeds). So I wouldn't worry about the cut-off or being slow. Be prepared to queue at some of the hills - you probably know the area already, but the trails are narrow, so there's not a lot of passing, unless you've got big elbows.

Have you run in the area, or walked it? The views are incredible, as long as the weather's ok, finish is amazing, uphill, what else, but what a view, and with free beer overlooking Chamonix (not until you finish), aaah.

Ooh, you're making me think about applying again now! Anything else, feel free to ask.

Hello Lunarman, thank you for your reply.

My husband and I went to Chamonix last year to watch a friend do the UTMB and we did a little walking around the area and absolutely loved it. We're lucky enough to be able to arrive the weekend before the event to acclimatise (we live at sea level). I registered today - you should check it out, the form just takes a few easy minutes ;) - so just waiting to hear if we're successful. If not, we'll apply for the cross which looks incredible too. If we don't have any luck getting into anything then we'll just have to suck up having a lazy holiday in Chamonix... :)

Well if your friend has run the UTMB you'll have all the advice you need! Good luck with the entry Skyefrog, didn't realise it was a draw this year - it must be getting more and more popular. There's always the 1km vertical race - that'd be fun!
I'm only hesitating about doing the race again 'cos weirdly I trapped a nerve in my calf on the steep way down the Col des Possettes and had to finish the race in some pain.

Got something to say?
