Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Another vote for Hal Higdon here. I've used two of his programmes previously, and my PB came down from 3.55 to 3.28, and then from there to 3.14 at Brighton this year. Highly recommended.

As far as generic plans go Higdon is pretty solid.

Think I will be using Hal's plan also. His Novice 2 plan starts at pretty much the mileage I am doing presently, so if I can keep that up over the winter/spring it won't be a huge shock to the system when I start it in May. In two minds about adding any interval training though, as previous attempts at speed work have ended up in me getting injured - though that may just have been me attacking the sessions a little too vigorously trying to keep up with the speedy youngsters!

Decided on the Higdon 2. Added bonus that Wokingham and Surrey Half's are on the exact weeks that plan has me doing Half distance and the Cranleigh 15/21 is on the exact week the plan has me doing a 20 miler :-)

I do wonder if I should get another 20/21 run in though, but can leave that until the training really kicks in I guess, and judge from there.

Going to start by going to the odd interval session (maybe one in three) and see how the body reacts.
