Thanks guys, appreciate all your advice, will look into the ones you suggest Binks - yeah Rome is in March I think, that was another one I was looking at. Barcelona as well although we've visited there before so ideally I'd like to go somewhere new Nelly - cheers for the link to the other thread, hadn't spotted that one. Am sure we can agree a suitable carve up of the conquercise zones around here between us |

I didn't think the organisation at Paris was bad. There was a faff getting into the start pen, and a tad chaotic at the end, but it was well marshalled, the drinks stations were good, and the expo was well organised. I really liked the wave start too- much better than that London

I'm looking to do overseas marathons as well starting from next year. I've got my eye on Barcelona for several reason's. It's not that far away, cost of travel seems reasonable, and I've a friend who lives about an hour's drive away from there. I've only heard good things about it as well. Would also like to do Athens (because I've a friend who lives there as well) and Nice - Cannes (no friend there unfortunately) Talking of chaotic endings, my first marathon was Edinburgh 2011 and I don't think it could ever get more chaotic than that. |

The Dutch, Belgian & German races are always well organised - Rotterdam while well organised, flat fast & cheap is a very dull course. Bratislava is a hidden gem of a race - flat, scenic, cheap - great medal - end of March |

Yeah liked the sound of Bratislava. How easy is it to get to though, read a couple of comments that it's not that easy?

I vote for Germany, done Mittelrhein in May last year, a small field of about 500, although there's a Half, a 10Km and Inline skaters racing (although not at the same time). Kicks off in the late afternoon, about 1700hrs and finishes in Koblenz, running along the Rhein, flat and fast (not for me) and very picturesque. The goody bag is great, I got a lovely beer glass with the race route on it. Also ran Dusseldorf this year, in April, fast, flat, great atmosphere and support all the way around the course, bigger field of about 3000. Plenty of hotels all within walking distance of the start line and looked like plenty for wife/girlfriend/kids to do, although make sure the wife and girlfriend don't meet each other! Excellent organisation and value for money. mittelrhein-marathon.de metrogroup-marathon.de |
