Plenty of bird song this morning out by the river Swale around Reeth. For one brief moment I thought I heard a chiffchaff but it was too short and not that clear sound.

Strarling checking out a well-established nesting site opposite my house today. I also saw around 8 bullfinch in flight. A single male stopped to let us have a good look. What a beauty.

Anyone noticed a lack of ladybirds this winter? I always have them hibernate in the bathroom window frame, none this winter, checked with 2 friends who live near by and they report the same.

Haven't seen any either! Usually see them when cutting back the gardens.

3 great spotted woodpeckers having a real barney in a tree by the river yesterday afternoon. Making quite a racket.

Jackdaw fight in my garden this afternoon. Two seemed to take offence at something another had said. It was brief and looked brutal—no lasting harm to any of the three.

I saw a jay on my run this morning, then a fox wandered out of a hedge and back into it again. Also heard my first drumming woodpecker of the year.

Came home yesterday to see a Sparrowhawk sitting on the gate by the side of my house. Eying up the visitors to net door's bird feeders I suspect.
