My first Curlew of the year here. There were some around last week but I neither saw or heard them. Also a singing Chiffchaff on this morning's route.

First loudly singing chaffinches of the year yesterday, followed by a number of yellowhammers. Spring is beginning!

Tiny kestrel like bird on fence post today in garden, before darting down the stream just before I managed to get my camera. Will keep my camera handy as I'd like its id confirmed if it comes back

Probably the more common male sparrowhawk, but didn't look like one, but we've moved and as I've discovered with buzzards, even moving a few miles can be subtle changes. We're less than a mile from the rspb reserve and I've regularly seen photos of a merlin there. Until I can get a picture for sure I'll just have to keep looking

We once saw a male merlin in a scrap with a peregrine in the Lake District - an amazing skirmish

Or if you are incredibly lucky a blown-in lesser kestrel!

Not exactly likely as UK all-time sightings are in single figures but there have been the odd one the last couple of years. I was reading about them earlier today. Lovely little falcons.
