We heard several last year but in quite a specific area of Calderdale (the next valley south). Not heard one this year

Cuckoos are not that widespread at home but they seem to be thriving up on the west coast of Scotland, they seem to be everywhere. I've been moving around quite a lot and have heard multiple birds on all 9 days I've been up here.
For the last two nights I've been parked almost on the beach at the south end of Arran looking out to Ailsa Craig. It's proved to be a great birding spot. Out to sea I've had the Gannetts from the colony on the rock performing their aerobatics plus plenty of Eider. At low tide there has been Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Heron, Shelduck, numerous Oyc and Seals hauled up on the rocks. Plus a wader that I kept catching brief glimpses of but couldn't be sure of. Finally got a complete view this morning and a positive ID of Whimbrel. Then happened to bump into a guy who rings them and he was able to tell me that one of the pair we were looking at returns to exactly the same area of beach on every migration. Also a plentiful supply of Rock Pipits and Sedge Warbler along the beach margins plus Common, Herring and Lesser Black Backed Gulls.

I heard a cuckoo a couple of weeks ago when walking at Badbury Rings, it seemed to be following us around and was very loud, but we couldn't see it.

First fledgling blackbird in the garden. Slightly worried as I saw two makes staring at each other on the shed roof this morning. Would've thought territories were well and truly sorted by now?
