Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Seriously though - entirely intentional. This was a FGR L1 recce for a friend's benefit and I just wanted to show her the two options in terms of descent off Skiddaw. My navigation has been questioned before, but in broad daylight and when confronted with a wide and distinct pathway junction (especially one marked by a tarn) I usually make the right choice :-)

I'm assuming the expleyive quotient was somewhat 'elevated' at times, Martyn... ;)

I assume the alternative is to drop down SW off Ullock?

I think I've only used that many years ago in ascent, and swore a lot.

Yes, that's right. It's slower in my opinion, but it's the way Peter did it on his inaugural round.

Will be making one of our periodic trips this weekend before OH starts her new job in a couple of weeks :-)
Probably a valley walk at best - don't expect to be able to get very high :-(

Good luck R4R, it will be pretty mean up there this weekend. I was planning on another visit myself, but there's little point if we can't get out on the fells.

FILM PREMIERE - RUNNING THE WAINWRIGHTS

In June 2019, ultra-runner Paul Tierney attempted to break the record time for summiting all 214 Alfred Wainwright Lake District peaks in one go. The challenge saw him run over 318 miles, ascending the equivalent height of four times Mt Everest. The film tells a story that captivated the ultra-running community and wider sporting world.

The international online film premiere of Paul Tierney: Running The Wainwrights takes place on Monday February 24th at 19:00 UK time (GMT)
