After completing a 100 mile race this morning, I removed my calf guards to reveal a very bruised shin.

I didn't bang it or fall, although my shin was very sore during the race I assumed it was shin splints, but it's obviously not.

Any ideas?

Is your foot bruised too or just dirty?

Have you worn calf guards before? Perhaps they were too tight?

But yes, I would get that checked out. Are you ok walking on it?

Foot not bruised (or dirty!) not sure why it looks so purple in the photo!

Have worn the calf guards before with no problems, but not for that length of time. Can barely walk, but that's because the rest of me is wrecked!

That's really odd isn't it! Does it hurt to touch? If not maybe Swittle is right. I agree with the others though, I'd go & get it checked out. Hope it feels better soon.

Well, I hope the problem settles down - and forgive me for not congratulating you on completing a race and distance that are the stuff of dreams! :)

Thanks everyone for the congrats, it was indeed a sub24 and 2nd lady.

Swit - the only reason I don't think it's an allergy is that it was very painful whilst running, but not now

Congrats Lilaicha on the race :-)

Could it be that the circulation was poor in your leg during the race because of the calf guards if you say its was painful while running?
