Only five days to go... ...but still no starter. Looking at the website, the last two starters were announced in mid-March. Either there has been a change or no-one has accepted. Maybe JJJ is in the know. Out of interest, JJJ, what tasks have you been assigned over the weekend? |

I know no more than you Phil, Ovett was as much of a guess yours! As you say, there's normally an announcement earlier. Maybe it's Mo and they're keeping it a secret! I'm driving 4 days, Fri to Mon, a lot of the time tasks are dependant what comes up and who's available - when we've done one job we check in and get the next thing on the list, or get coffee and wait til something's needed. I usually get let out to play in the 7.5 tonner at some point - not everyone's old enough to have it on their licence and some are scared to drive it, I'm happy driving anything and I don't normally get the chance Things change all the time so even if the plan is for someone to do a job and they get stuck in traffic or someone else is free they get switched round, we're flexible. Sunday I have a lead vehicle which is the fun bit, pre race it's loading vans and shifting kit to start /finish / round the course, afterwards it's flat out collecting everything up from all over the place and getting it all back to base. |

Hi PH. Do you have any expectations for Sunday now that we know every square inch of the course? After a few training setbacks and injuries, I'm looking to start close to the front of the pink corral. I should be able to run the first half and then run-walk the rest of the way, hopefully to finish inside 4:50. Will Gray from Grounded Events e-mailed me recently: "We are placing timing mats around the route and will be tracking each 10/10 runner around the course, with one in the home straight." So, as 10/10 Runners, we may get identified over the PA system as we approach the finish in Madeira Drive. Hopefully, I won't fall on my face at that moment! |

I’m hoping to come down to Brighton to support, any recommendations on where it can be a bit quiet and the runners will need some encouragement?

Hi ABM. Any support and encouragement will be greatly appreciated by everyone. The quietest points are generally the furthest away from the city centre; i.e. along the coastal road out east beyond the marina (miles 6-11) and between miles 19 and 23 (Basin Road South aka the Saucony Road to Hell). There is a Fetchpoint close to mile 19 not far from Hove Lawns and they have their own forum: fetcheveryone.com/viewtopic.php?id=48779 |

Yes the outer reaches of the hove loop and out to the power station are both hard and relatively lonely

Yes, Fetchpoint is at about 18.5 miles - just after the 30K timing mat. Look out for red & yellow bunting on the railing by the side of the road! kwala and I will be there for sure - ABM come and join us if you like, we'll be just outside the King Alfred leisure centre.

After the timing chip issues last year (and I'm certain that there were hundreds of others based on how the positional results kept changing), I am glad to see that this year's chips have reverted back to being on the race numbers. For me, I am always looking down to check whether it is still attached to my shoelaces. So that will be one less thing for me to worry about during the course of the race. |
