It is. There must come a tipping point though, you can only steal time back from the non-running bits so much before it impacts your running speed and starts to have the opposite effect to the one you're looking for.

It'll be interesting to see if she can do it, as put together with Jasmin's Spine performance it might point to there being some gender-based slant on such things. Although there's probably a whole world of difference in such things between leading a race and chasing a time.

Completely agree Flanker and given Paul didn't have a huge amount of down time in the second half it will be interesting to see if it works without her just coming to a dead stop.

Comparison with The Spine is interesting because when you look at it it's pretty much double the time and I think that potentially takes you into different territory. With the Spine the top people can start with the concept that you can go two nights without sleep and still keep a good pace up through to the 3rd night ie 60 hours ish. A good demonstration of that is Mike Hartley's PW record. Jasmin and John Kelly have shown that if you do take some rest pushing through to 3 and half days on minimal sleep at a decent speed is possible. But how much further can you take the minimal sleep game before as Flanker says it produces the opposite effect to the one you desire?

Is that split schedule really what she's working to?

There's no sleep built into that at all is there?

Be quite useful for avoiding people meeting her maybe - get ahead and sleep longer and not be quite where you're expected to be at any point?

certainly didn't hang around long at the road crossing.

RH there are a number of 2 hour breaks built in but that's it and the first one isn't scheduled until Wednesday after 48 hours! And it still only comes in 6 hours ahead of the record. Maybe she's hoping to build up extra to allow longer breaks? I guess we might find out at Ennerdale but she's going to arrive there in daylight? She has lost time to Paul for most of today which suggests to beat his record she is going to have to do something drastic. Though because he started at 8am and was in the dark on these fells she seems to be getting some back now but that will even out overnight.

Trying to avoid people when you have a 24x7 tracker broadcasting to the internet is a bit futile I would suggest. She may get ahead of her schedule but it is going to take much sleuthing to work out where to find her if people chose to ignore her request.

If she makes it I to the second half I expect she'll be like Paul and wanting company just to keep her awake.

Agree ff. Most of the mortals on events like LL100 go into, if not through, the second night and cope OK (to degrees!), and then manage to spend the next day eating, drinking and nattering. I think a third day & night would be a very different kettle of fish.

- no I don't think it would work either- not if you were absolutely determined to see her somewhere anyway

depends what she's used to, maybe she lives on 3-4 hrs sleep anyway, I know I did at her age (though I was on my feet at work all day, not running in the fells)

I was told today she suffers from insomnia so maybe it is normal for her to function off next to no sleep for several days?

Looks like she's had a good first full night - about 2.5 hours up on her own schedule, and despite the fact that she's generally a bit slower than Paul for most of the splits is now about 35 mins up on his time.

See that's she's planning on doing the Scafell section in a different order to Paul, she's going Scafell - Scafell Pike - Lingmell - Great End, whereas Paul did Scafell - Lingmell - Scafell Pike - Great End.
