Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Seems to be wandering South of the usual line off Skiddaw / up Skiddaw from what I can tell on the tracker? Maybe an indication of how wet it was, trying to look for (relatively! more solid ground).
Also looks like he went straight down the LHS of the fence from the top of Calva? Is that common, as I've always backtracked and gone down the RHS?

Well, I don't know if it's common per se, but I've certainly jumped over the fence straight from the summit on several occasions and cut a diagonal line until I reached the fence, then it's always been a LHS descent. It's rough underfoot from the top though.

That's my line off Calva too NE.

His line over Hare Crag and up Calva does look a little further south than the normal line. I think the ground had a good covering of snow on Thursday night given some of the pictures I'd seen for Blencathra and surrounds on Thursday so it might just have been a case of whoever was breaking the trail finding the path of least resistance rather than there being a new trod.

Thanks - will try that next time up there rather than backtracking to the fence corner.

(and yes, I meant off Skiddaw, up Calva, not running back whence he'd came :-) )

Had been hoping to get back on the Lakeland fells tomorrow (been nearly 5 months :-( ), but with wind speeds predicted to be 70 mph plus on the summits, and -18 deg C with the windchill, I might be staying low!

On the subject of trackers there's inReach and mini from Garmin which requires subscription but may be value for money if out a lot.

If they keep cancelling races and I keep training I think a BGR could be a suitable way to get rid of my/your/our excess energy?
