>> In terms of musical ability "first rate pub-rock band" might be a fair description. However, no other band or solo artist has written so many songs of quality.
Hmm, a matter of taste obviously but you could argue that Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen or Joni Mitchell from that era have a songbook to match Lennon/McCartney - esp. if you look over the last 55 years rather than just at their peak. The obvious counterfactual is what John Lennon's output might have been after 1980.

As somebody who loved 90s indie /Britpop, OCS were rubbish. I remember them selling millions of albums without knowing anyone who admitted liking their work (see also David Gray)...

The range and quality of their output over such a short period of time is unmatched. They are far more accomplished than a first-rate pub band
I'd rather listen to nails scraping down a blackboard than Joni Mitchell (although the two sounds are not disimiliar)

I half agree - I like her songs, but not necessarily with her singing them...

The problem is her lyrics are like someone consciously trying to write lyrics.

Careful, Greppers might know where you live. I don't think TT was quite so prone to the use of superfluous adjectives as JM.

Look my eyes are just holograms Look your love has drawn red from my hands From my hands you know you'll never be More than twist in my sobriety
Those are all words. Definitely words. Some of them even go together in a logical order.

Ha! Her wikipedia page says she moved to the bright lights, big city of Primrose Hill as soon as she found fame. She turned her back on Basingstoke! After all it had done for her!
