they seem to perform their primary function for me (although MHR is down to about 150 now - which isn't *that* far off 220-age :-o). RHR now sub 40 and that was what I was most concerned by - cadiologist said it was OK unless I started fainting or got calf pains (guess he was concerned about DVT maybe?). No asthma or *upstairs* problems:)
However, I 've been on them for a few years now and it seems like I'm getting a bit of breakthrough lately so I'm going to push for ablation at my next appt in October.

Hi everyone, I developed an irregular heartbeat around 8 weeks ago and after having an ecg I was refer to a cardiologist. As listening to my heartbeat racing was petty scary I went to a cardiologist privately and have been proscribed beta blockers and blood thinning in preparation to a cardioversion procedure. Ive started doing a treadmill run each evening, starting from very slow and not very far, and building up now to slow and a bit further. My heartrate seems to go up to 130 whatver pace I run at, and I am sensing that my comfortable pace is around 1 mph slower than previously, although I am getting a bit more confident each time I run. I do seem to feel a bit light headed after I take them but they are doing their stuff in controlling the heart rate. However I dont intend to be on them long, it was not part of the master plan

it's paroxsysmal Hipps - roughly one episode a month, but can go into AF quite quickly if I deviate by a few hours on taking the meds.

Hi PH, yes I am down for a cardioversion. I have to have 4 bllod tests where some measure (INR) needs to be above 2. Do you know what that is, and anything that might result in not staying above 2?

exflyboy, are you on warfarin or other medication?
I had to get my INR to a certain range, and they used warfarin to get it there.

PH yes I am on pradaxa. Ive now been told I dont need the 4 blood tests and as I have been on medication for 4 weeks I have been put on the waiting list for cardioversion. I will find out what the waiting time is, but hopefully it will only be a few weeks before we have the first shot at getting rid of the fibrilation. Im gradually increasing the pace of my treadmill runs, and now seem to be 1 min per mile slower at the same effort. However I never ran very far in a warm gym before so maybe its actually less.
