Great to see a thread on this opening. I have entered (there are a number of local fetchies in as well) and I'm really looking forward to this. As someone who struggles with the long stuff but loves to follow the ultra chat Im excited about getting a little closer to the WHW.

I'm in. Good to see lots of Fetchies in. JRitchie I'm looking forward to running some of it with you IRL. This is going to be tough for me at this point. After the D99 last March I haven't run more than 94 miles in one month, never mind 9.5 days. It's the kick up the bum I need and I'm looking forward to the whw chat. I had volunteered to be in the sweeper team for this year's real race so this will be quite different. Might even get a pb? 27:13 to beat! At least I can't lose an hour at KLL! And no rain-soaked deathmarch on the Lairig Mhor! |

Thanks DQ but I'm wary about adding this to my portfolio. That's not because I have anything to hide but, rather, because (assuming I finish) it's going to spit out a PB for 95 miles at the end. Nothing particularly wrong with that in itself but a time gained through multiple activities over several days with plenty of sleep is inevitably going to be significantly quicker than anything that could be achieved attempting the same distance as a continuous effort. I'm not sure I want my profile skewed by a PB for the distance which is likely to be many hours quicker than if I'd attempted the 'real' event. Maybe I'm being over-sensitive but I'd prefer it if the race listing could be adapted in some way that it didn't generate PBs? |

I did think about that as well CumbriAndy. Race listing is great to see who is in and link to blog and thread but its not a single race. I'm sure another category for a "flexible finish" or some such would be a decent fix so it doesn't create confusion and dodgy PBs.

I have the same thoughts CumbriAndy, I hadn't realised DQ had made it a PB race. Isn't the easiest thing to do to remove it from PB listings? I was kind of joking about beating my PB, I realise it's not the same as the actual race.

You used to be able to Mrs S but it defaults to that setting now. I have asked Fetch to change it for me as it would be good to see who else is taking part and blogs etc

And DQ, never say never, this might inspire you to do the real race. I've said this to JRitchie repeatedly, he could do it, you could do it. The actual race has very generous cut offs so as long as you make it to Balmaha (20 miles) while still running most of it you can practically fast - walk the rest and be in within 35 hours. The first year I did it I didn't run a step after Auchtertyre due to injury, and still finished with four hours to spare. |
