indeed...I didn't notice 'dump' first round...I vited against all chocolate cake because in general they are hugely over rated.

I bloody love chocolate cake (except nutty ones), but definitely agree with that assessment. I've rarely found a chocolate cake, either in nice restaurants or shops, that comes anywhere close to a home made effort.
That said, I did buy myself an Asda chocolate cake the other day, and it hits the spot more than any of these travesties would *bleat*

I was worried there..Chocolate cakes rarely taste of chocolate. Most end up being piles of gloop.
I once made a proper Black Forest Gateaux. It was amazing..it took days though...sterling cherries, no flour sponge....jam..all from scratch.
Delia probs.

Black Forest Gateaux make me heave. I think it's because I first had one when young, believing it just to be a yummy chocolate cake, but then got hit by disturbing jammage.
Jam and chocolate is a big no for me.

Black Forest gateaux, in the Black Forest surrounded by cuckoo clocks. Happy, happy days!

My Mum used to make an amazing Black Forest gateau, probably helped having the right bottled black sour cherries from Germany.

I made Black Forest gateau when I was about 18 and it took me days. The local corner shop sold an amazing range of miniatures and we were both dubious about the cherry liquor, it wasn’t one of their top sellers

Hmm, a long time ago (and far, far, away) there was a young squaddie sent to exercise in Thetford "Forest". And I'll just leave that story there.
