I agree about Cobham. My problem with John McLaughlin is, unfortunately, that he is a brilliant technical guitarist. It’s the feel I find rather lacking.

12barD, Kolosky web site has an image that I cannot grab owing to copyright or maybe my lack of ability.
It's Sept 2 1972 Crystal Palace and it has a poster of that concert showing Yes as headliner .

Don't disagree about the technicality Glenn but I feel that Birds of Fire does have a measure of light and shade that appears suppressed on the later stuff

No, your pulling my leg, Soft Machine.

I wonder who’s in the band now? I remember seeing them down The Dome in Brighton when I was a teenager. Robert Wyatt was on drums & Kevin Ayers was on bass. Oh dear, I might have to resort to Google. I can’t remember who the other two musicians were.

I know at one point Allan Holdsworth was the guitarist. Crikey, he could play chords on the fretboard other people couldn’t even dream of.

I gave up on them after Karl Jenkins left...

No, frankly, I gave up on them after one listen of an album that Derek(Dirgid-hell of a nickname) E brought in to school to play in about 1972. I thought it was crap then and still do.

Mind you I thought Rush were crap and have only just changed my mind about them, perhaps I should pay youtube or spotify a visit.
