Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Some may have seen this: evanscycles.com But I'm in awe of the guy. Ex-pro but went from homeless to world record attempt on a borrowed bike!

Are those records he set, given at the end of the article, correct ?

eg 100km in 2:43:08, by my calculations that works out at 22.8mph, surely that can't be the world record pace, can it ? I'd have thought it would be at least 30mph.

The current 24 hour record it says is 548 miles, which itself works out at 22.833mph, so surely for 62 miles the record would be way faster ?

Disclaimer - I do very little cycling, but sure that some of my more serious mates can average close to 20mph on an undulating road ride of 2 or 3 hours.

Seems reasonable but you'd wonder given the lack of coverage whether these will stand

I had a look at 100km records and his seem right, but I did wonder if they would stand. But think he could easily beat them in future.

That's quite a story in itself.

There seems to be a bit more interest in these records lately. Christoph Strasser rode 556.856 miles earlier in the year but it wasn't on a velodrome, only a closed circuit, and he recently rode 585.525 miles indoors road.cc

If you compare this to Chris Hopkinson's attempt road.cc those distances/times look about right, even though the 100km and 200km records seem very slow. I reckon I could easily beat 5:44:49 for 200km, having ridden 100miles in under 4 hours quite a few times (as could any decent UK timetriallist)

Got something to say?
