I certainly would vote magpie in any magpie vs jay fixture if we were to have a corvidae death match (not a bad idea in itself), but to say they are useless is a bit extreme.
In my general day to day experience crane flies take some beating in terms of uselessness.

ANYWAY.
Has anyone noticed how close the polls are?
They are all referendum-like, I feel there will be some unease.

I have thought of a tie-breaker.
Total votes cast for a contender in all previous rounds from the first round 'proper'.

Ooh. I can extend my deathmatch engine. Good idea. Can someone remind me in the morning?

Daft idea. It'll give the win to the contender that previously faced the crappest opposition.

Precisely, although at least in principle the other teams all get an equal chance.

I'll look at my deathmatch engine in the morning and come up with some suggestions.

I *like* that we have tiebreaks (i.e. re-votes) as it means people then have to vote for the least bad choice. That only ever goes wildly wrong in American elections.
