I started running in 2008 as I got a place in the Great North Run which I entered without thinking I'd ever get a place - and of course I did! I kinda kidded myself I'd done enough training but of course I was very ill prepared so I set myself a time goal of under 3 hours which I achieved (2hrs, 54mins). I was then 5 stone overweight and rather liked the effect running was having helping to start to shift the excess pounds.I entered the Edinburgh Half Marathon in May 2009 and I knew to improve in this running malarky I would need help and support as I don't like running enough to go do it by myself! So I joined North Shields Poly. They made me feel very welcome, and I've gone from being the slowest to the second slowest! I did the Edinburgh Half Marathon in 2hrs 38mins, and the Redcar Half in 2hrs 33mins
