Notes & Comments
New Forest 10. Very hot day for the race. Weather station report is only at the start and it soon warmed up (My phone said 28C while we were out running). Decided early on that I was not going to try and push it for a time as it was going to be far too hot. Even though was still getting increasingly faster for the 1st few miles. Started to feel like I was going to overheat around the 4 mile mark and stopped just after drinks station for a toilet break which allowed my body to cool. Took it a bit easier or the next couple of miles and started to get into a comfortable rhythm from 6 miles on. I had already decided that was going to stick with Steve for the run (unless I dropped off and he wanted to push on). Steve said he was really struggling from about 7 miles due to the heat. Some parts the course were completely enclosed in dense forest either side and the temperature must have easily been over 30C. Picked the pace up for the last mile (quickest of the race) as the finish got nearer, we were lucky to get the 1st bit of cloud cover for the finish. The kids joined us on the finishing straight as we finished together. Very tough race due to the extreme heat but a worthwhile experience
