Notes & Comments

I was fine until 30km. I was more or less with the 3.45hr pace makers. Atmosphere at the start was fantastic. Great to see the city. It was pretty cool to begin but gradually the tempaerature rose. Got to 21km in around around 1hr53mins so I felt 3hr45mins pace was still possible. I had a nasty coughing fit after taking a drink at halfway which knocked me off my rythmn. I got over this but then at 30km I wanted some isotonic drink and gels. I couldn't run and take them on so I walked. I couldn't get my legs going again properly after that.

We then hit the beach and the temparatures rose and it just became harder and harder. Everytime there was a drinks station I had to stop and walk. GOt a head of steam up as we went into the old city but again at 40km legs went and it took me over 20mins to cover the last 2km.

My cold/cough and lack of training in recent weeks defintiely didn't help so Iwill have another go soon but hopefully fully fit too
