Race report: last year, the same race, my fastest lap was the first, at 22:48 and ballooned out to 26:25 for lap 8. This year I wanted to start easier and get a feel for the pace. Average pace start at around 5:26/km. Thought I would blow up continuing at that pace. However, slowly got faster average time until 10th lap where it went from 5:19/km to 5:20/km after the uphill. Slow running up the hill each time. Knees sore for the last 3 uphills. Flat parts and downhills I would describe as 'gentle pushing': a slightly uncomfortable pace, but nothing drastic. Trying to run relaxed. No walking at all. Heart rate didn't get recorded with original app and I didn't have any feedback on it during the race. Stitch after the hill on the last lap. Persisted through that. Last 1km put on the pace a bit and almost a sprint for the last 100m. Massive PB by around 39:00. Left side felt twangy/crampy when standing at the award ceremony afterwards. Ran to receive 2nd place medal as I was so surprised. Felt better after race than with others. No staggering when walking. Though later soreness after driving a little.

Official position after each lap (11 competitors):

Big jump in position for the 7th lap, which was my fastest lap.

I thought I'd blow up with the pace I started at, but ended up I could actually keep it going.
Although I did do 22.4k at 4:45/km pace two weeks before the marathon.
Nice one!
My Princes Park mara was 2017 and I blew up (had done spotty training for about a month beforehand, which was my only training). So I ended up walking a fair amount for the second half. Sounds like Como will be on my radar next year. Glad you liked the pancakes. I’ve liked every Sri Chinmoy event I’ve been to.
