Really gutted about not getting sub 20 today. Went off hard in the first km but the slight downhill nature of the first km does partly explain it. I have also put my PB stats for comparison. Make for quite interesting comparisons. Lost similar chunks of time 1km - 4km but then managed to hold it together in a similar fashion to the PB.
This was definitely the most wind I can remember at Albert parkrun. The course after the initial maybe 400m is essentially a rectangular lap. Wind didn't effect me much on the two long sides, the end for the finish by the lake was rapid and wind assisted. The part at the top end of the park was wind against just as you came onto it then all the way along that side under you got sheltered and were heading back down.
I'm kinda over it now. Not sure how quick the Sydney parkrun is but if I don't hit sub 20 there, I will definitely be wanting to do it next time I am in Middlesbrough. That is just 4 sub 20's in 45 attempts. Precious things.
Really beat my body up on this run, calves and hamstrings all pretty tight.
Looking to make next week a much better running one before we fly off.

Really good effort Si - especially considering the 20 mile race you had done the week before. I wouldn't stress about not going under 20 - it will happen soon and then I'm sure you will go well under.

Cheers Luke. I'm sure the 20 miler was still in my legs. Just been sniffing around low 20's for so long. 5k is definitely low on my list of priorities. A PB at 10k and Marathon would more than make up for a lack of sub 20 5k.
