Grindleford Gallop race. First mile slow because of all the stiles. Weather actually got almost too hot. Pretty strong headwind from Eyam to Great Longstone. First 8 miles felt hard (had a mild stitch from about mile 2 until about mile 7). Tired by Hassop (half way), was quite a slog through Chatsworth. Didn't feel great at Baslow so stopped for a drink and a little chat with some people. Walked up the hill out of Baslow and by the top had recovered a bit. Picked up Debbie's partner on Froggat edge, and kept each other going to the end. Loved the descent through the woods to the end - great to have different terrain to use different muscles! Tired at the end but not wiped out (maybe I could have run faster). Very pleased with my time, I'd anticipated being nearer to 4.5 hours. Struggled to eat en route - need to rethink my strategy for eating while racing, cereal bars are fine for a training run but I struggled to get it in yesterday. Also struggled to drink enough - it was hot and I was aware of being thirsty - a bladder might have been better for more frequent sips.
