you ran it on 2013-09-22
Starting from the centre of Whitby, a steady run over the bridge then through the narrow roads between a unique variety of shops, before arriving at the foot of the 199 steps up to the churchyard. Take the steps or the slope - I find the steps a bit easier as the slope is very steep in place. At the top, bypassing the old abbey, head left for the cliffs and follow the cliff top path towards Saltwick Nab. After a while, cut through the caravan park but keep the cliff top in view as you need to get back onto that path and not head onto the road.
The view is glorious on a sunny morning. Take time to stop and stare before retracing your steps back the way you came. It's worth the extra few minutes to run back through the centre of Whitby and along to the pier - another opportunity to stand and admire the rugged coast - before going back to the starting point.
