Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Vindicator More of a holiday than a serious run, so lots of walking around and beer drinking was not exacty good preparation! Race day was hot, so with memories of Rotterdam in my mind aimed to run at 8 minute mile, monitor my heart rate and be ready to wind it up for the finish. The route reads like a tourist bus tour: Starting under the Olympic rings of the Berlin Olympic Stadium, you run essentially downhill along long, straight boulevards to the Siegesaure and on to the Brandenburgh gate (10K). We had avoided seeing this before the run, so that the first time would be running through it. I had by now accelerated to full half marathon pace. On to Friedrichstrasse to just short of check point charlie, Gedaechnisskirche, Potsdamer Platz and Kufursteredam (15K). Here it was getting a little hot, so pace was checked back to 8 min mile. There was a killer hill at 19-20K whick slowed me down quite a bit, but settled me for what was to come. The route took you around the back of the Olympic stadium, and in to the entrance tunnel. I had seen this done may times on TV in Olympic marathons and wondered what it would be like, but bursting out of the darkness on to the track was just awsome! Sprint finish and after getting my breath back took in the atmosphere for a bit. We the tried to find some water - not so easy... The Germans do not do water at the end of races, they do beer! (well, we had earn't it).

Vicksta Doing this more to visit a friend and see Berlin than for the race, but an Olympic Stadium finish sounds pretty blimming good! Not really going to push the pace as only 3 weeks after Rotterdam, but will probably do it at about a 9 min/mile. Update: Great race, past lots of touristy things to see, the Siegesaure, Brandenburgh gate, Friedrichstrasse, Gedaechnisskirche, Potsdamer Platz and finished in the olympic stadium. Lovely looking stadium, not bad for my first stadium finish! Took the race quite steadily, didnt push myself, just ran at a comfortable pace. My piriformis hurt all the way, with my calf joining in at about 15K. Still, pleased with my time, especially given injury and only 3 weeks since Rotterdam! Only annoying thing was my Garmin losing lock and not regaining it for the final mile. Split time for the half marathon 1 h 48 55. Came 72nd Female, and 9th in my class (W30-35)! Not bad as I wasn't really trying :-)
