Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Is there an easy way to compare how well I do on a particular route using Garmin or strava or Fetch?

I know I can set us a segment in strava but it seems a bit odd to have a 32 mile segment and I want to monitor my efforts over this route over time. At the moment I'm scanning through my training logs trying to find the same distance and that isn't very efficient.

If it's exactly the same route, you could save it on Fetch, then each time you run it, add it in as a named route. Then you can see how you perform by checking it in "My Routes".

I'm sure someone will explain that much more eloquently....

That sounds handy. And bless you for your confidence but I'm doing it on a bike. 32 miles is not something I'm currently up to at any decent pace without machinery.

strava will also spot if you've done the same route before without you needing to take any special action. It'll tell you how you did in each attempt and whether you're trending faster or slower.

Perhaps the issue is "exactly the same route' - I have ridden the same route a 5 or 6 times but strava has not noticed it is the same route - sometimes it registers as slightly different - 32.19, 32.2, 32.21 miles I can see in the last few pages of my strava log. That is why I am thinking about setting it up as a long segment. Do I have to click on something to get strava to notice it is the same route?

You shouldn't have to click anything, and I've have thought your examples were close enough to be a match! Here's a screenshot of what you're looking for...

Maybe it's different for rides rather than runs?

I mostly look at it on a Mac in Safari but I looked at the phone app as that is what you seem to have and I can't see it. Even if I scroll to the bottom. It tells me about segments but does not compare the whole ride to previous ones.

I get this.

Doh! Looks like it's not available for rides - support.strava.com

A segment sounds like a fair option, but the comments in the above link suggest that it'll only work if your segment doesn't start or end in your privacy zone.

Ah - good link! I notice one comment says I can do it in Garmn so I might look at that - my stuff loads to Garmin and then copies to strava & Fetch by the invisible hands free power of magic voodoo.

I moved house in October and have not yet moved my privacy zone so that might not be too much of a problem.

I've made a segment - I imagine I have to ride it again to have it show up.

Thanks for the input.
