2002 - GR wrestler Rulon Gardner had the middle toe on his right foot amputated due to frostbite. He had been stranded overnight in Wyoming on February 14.

The GR is because it is "similar to the wrestling formerly found in the ancient civilizations surrounding the Mediterranean Sea" according to wiki.

Doh.

Quick google suggests that the amputation was followed by a motorbike accident, plane crash, bankruptcy and an appearance on a reality tv show. A real run of bad luck.
