Three fields full of lambs fairly high up today! 😮 The Snowdrops here have still got their heads down.

Plenty of goosanders on Union canal near Edinburgh. Both males(green heads) and females (red heads). Also a heron, buzzards, bullfinch and a woodpecker...black and white but don't know which one it was. And a roe deer being nimble in the woods. It looked over at me but didn't flee as the canal was between us. 🦌

Great spotted woodpecker - common, about the size of a thrush.
Lesser spotted woodpecker - very rare, about the size of a sparrow.
Green woodpecker - not black and white
Does that help with your ID Rob?

Penguins - black and white, reasonably common, not likely to fly around much - should also be added to the differential. And male Ostrich - same but bigger.

Thanks KinkyS - sounds like a greater. Pretty certain it was neither penguin nor ostrich as it flew and clung to a tree trunk. AND pecked.

We've had a few really large skeins of pinkies over the valley the last few days. Had to explain to one of my customers about them.
