~ Not wishing to name drop here, but in the last 18 months or so I have been lucky enough to meet other "celebrities" such as Gordon Ramsay, Rick Stein, Nathan Outlaw,
Count Arthur Strong, Mara Yamauchi, Sat Baines and Fern Britton. Without exception I found them to be personable, humble and generally, just, nice. Paul Hollywood was the odd one out. And, yes TRO, his cuffs were fucking ridiculous. Smug c*nt! ~

Interesting. I'd have guessed GFR would be the c*nt, not Hollywood.

How did Ramsay respond when you punched him in the face and said 'that's for all the guys straining their nuts off trying to get to Kona'?

Did you offer to sell him some skincare products? Or possibly some leather polish?

I must admit, I was expecting Gordon* to be like he appears on TV, but he couldn't have been more different. He was incredibly softly spoken, polite, patient and witty. When he found out we were from Nottingham he spent ages telling us how much he loved the area round the Staffs 70.3 (I didn't have the heart to tell him it was 55 miles from us) My daughter and I were doing our first triathlons the following week, which prompted him to spend a good 10 - 15 minutes chatting and offering tips. Thoroughly nice bloke.
* I can call him Gordon because we met him again later in the year, on the beach outside his £4.6 million pound retreat in Porthilly. He remembered us and asked our the triathlons went.

Did you have a conversation about whether his claim to be an ex-professional footballer was more or less valid than your claim to be an ex-professional cricketer?

GerP 85,167 is an x-post with nico 7,101.
I'm sitting here slightly agape. That's a lovely story.
My 'knowledge' of Mr Ramsay, or the sweary chef formerly known as GFR, or whatever we may come to call him, comes from Giles Coren being terrified of him.

I don't remember ever claiming to be an ex-professional willow waver? I did play in League cricket with and against professionals, but I was always an enthusiastic amateur. I did, however, play one season of football for a side who offered me £8 for every game we won. From memory, I earned £16. I wasn't asked back the following season

(FWIW I have also heard that Ramsay is a decent bloke, a good boss to work for and very unlike the TV persona. Suspect his biggest fault may be that of a being a bit of a bullshitter - hence 'exaggerating' the unsuccessful Rangers trial, kind of 'omitting' the bit about not having earned his spot in Kona when everyone else has etc)
(I also note on my twitter feed that he's now part of the Challenge family, so maybe WTC didn't come up with the Kona goodies this time round)
