I voted for Samit Patel for the following reasons....

1. He is from Nottingham

2. I taught him how to play cricket

3. I used to play cricket with his dad, Ron Patel

4. Ron Patel now owns a pub a couple of miles from my house

5. Samit is technically made up of 74% gravy

6. He is better than Ravi Bopara

(*I have assumed Samit has eaten all the cheese/curd, bread and skyr so only 2 of the field left and he's thus accumulated their votes the same way if you won at conkers you'd get all the 'lives' accrued by the beaten one)

My arguments are less compelling, but heartfelt.

1. I constituted a good 20% of the ‘crowd’ the day Ravi got his Essex cap.

2. Ravi had not seen a sheep until he was in his early twenties.

3. The ‘oooh Ravi Bopara’ song is spoken about in reverential tones around Chelmsford (a bit like the ‘Arsenal fan on a string’ song at White Hart Lane) despite the fact that nobody - nobody - knows either the words or the tune.
