I like places that do burgers without buns. GBK and Byron do too.

There is no such thing as a cheap meal in Padstow

That's because it's full of hipster scum (TM Dvorak).

One of the best things about Padstow (apart from the Chough Bakery pastys, the "secret" beer garden at the Golden Lion, the beautiful view across to Rock and the total lack of replica football shirts) is people watching. Not sure about hipster scum, but lots of yellow cords and day trippers from Newquay moaning about the price of fish and chips.

'yellow cords'

:-)

We NEED a deathmatch, any deathmatch that can include yellow cords.

'Things Greppers wore when he was young and alive' maybe?

Pucelli's is relatively cheap for Padstow and has the best view. No booking system so get there at the start of evening service for a table overlooking the harbour. The pizza I had there last summer was the biggest and best I've had in a long time. Not haute cuisine, just standard Italian menu.

I've been in a Cafe Nero once, and thought it one of the inner circles of hell.

We did try Pucelli's a few years ago. Left after waiting 45 minutes for a table, so can't comment on the food. For value, it is hard to beat The Ship and The Golden Lion, especially the specials.

That's why we always go in early. Seen mixed reviews on the place but personally I've had good meals and ok meals, but never bad. Not eaten in any of the pubs, except to use the loos, because Mrs D hates sitting inside "dingy pubs."

In Padstow, shouldn't that be "dinghy pubs"?
The tables out front of The Ship are the best people watching venue ever.
