Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Dave on the carbon negative stuff this is from his instagram(as you say perhaps not the place for a wider discussion on the subject but it seemed the best place to answer your direct question) :

"What's your carbon (and equivalent GHG emissions) footprint?
I wanted to get mine down, but I didn’t know what it was. So I was cockahoop to discover the fine folk at Our Carbon (ourcarbon.com, @ourcarbon).
Via a couple of informal chats, we were able to get a good grasp of not just my emissions from running/work, but my family’s overall emissions for 2019.
The UK family average can be reasonably estimated at 25-30 tons per household, or 10 tons per adult (about 24 million balloons).
Despite me flying to several international races in 2019, our emissions were estimated at 17 tons. But we wanted to do better.
By cutting down on flights, switching to a renewable energy supplier, cutting out beef and other tweaks, our family emissions budget for 2020 is 10.23 tons. (But that was before Covid-19, so we'll likely have emitted less.)
I offset (not a perfect solution, but there isn't a perfect solution) 13 tons with Jim Mann's Future Forest Company (futureforests.co.uk) at £270 to make us comfortably carbon negative for 2020.
You can see my carbon accounts here: crbn.pro
Plenty of room for improvement. But it's progress.
Hopefully we're not far from a time when all companies will publish their carbon accounts. We may be able to help that by choosing where we spend our money 😉
Our Carbon are really easy to work with and can do a carbon audit for running brands, events and, well, pretty much anyone really."

The interesting bit from a running point of view is that it is largely being done through involvement with one of Jim Mann's ventures (another one of his in a similar vein is https://www.treesnottees.com/)

Pretty much bang on the same amount up on his schedule as John was after 3 hours. But that bit of John's schedule was clearly off just from looking at Spine splits. Not sure about Damian's? There isn't really anything to look at as a comparison.

I can't help thinking that there is a mental benefit from clearing the section to Byrness in 5 and a half hours whilst fresh rather than facing an 8-9 hour drag at the end? Similarly the Cross Fell section is also hit when much fresher. The latter part of going north to south has much more frequent support points providing lots of short term objectives to tick off which can help when you're on the limit.

Thanks ff - think the blurb with the tracker could have been clearer with more of ^ in it.

Finding the schedule "planning" aspect fascinating.

What's the weather like? guessing similar to what JK had?

I've not been able to find any so far Gus. I wonder if Windsor Wool has access to any?

RH looking at the weather for the Cheviots and Byrness on yr.no it looks exactly the same as JK had on Day 1. Rain, a bit of a breeze and no doubt low cloud.

Gus, FF - yes, I'm going to have a look in the paperwork that I have. If not I expect I can ask Mrs H who was always responsible for the logistics. I'm on the case :-)
