9st 13 on Saturday morning a day before race. This didn't go quite as well as I hoped, although, with the benefit of hindsight, perhaps I was hoping for a bit much. I hoped that my fitness gained on all those hills in readiness for New York would carry me through to a fast time. I wrote all the splits on my hand from the Shakepeare Half, 18 months ago, in an effort to replicate them and perhaps eventually beat them. For the first 6-7 miles I was up with it, but then I was unable to keep speeding up as I had done in Stratford. This was partly due to the course, which narrowed in places and meant that I was constantly having to weave and slow dow. But also, for Stratford I had trained for the half marathon, whereas here I hadn't done the speed training. I am preparing for 26.2. In the last three miles I tailed off when I realised I wasn't going to get near my PB. It also made me realise that in the last three Saturdays I have run 17, 23 and 20 miles, and I think that was still in my legs. Also, I again ran well over the distance - its worth about 2 minutes. So it wasn't the fantastic confidence booster I was hoping for, but it was still a reasonable time and 2468/14,718 finishers wasn't too bad. Cals 1538.
