Session 3/4: Chippenham Half Marathon (13.22 miles actually). Position 410/1328.
Pleased with this, despite the course being long by over 0.1 miles.
Turned up with a sore right calf but thankfully the deep heat and bandage helped to get me through with no problems to the end.
This was one of my better runs in a while. I was strong from mile one through to the finish. In fact I finished feeling as though I could have gone for a few more miles and probably gone a bit quicker. I was really too knackered at the end.
Got held up with congestion at the start (slow runners starting at the front and ignorant iPod wearers who were oblivious to those of us trying to get past).
Finally got into action in mile 3 and was pleased to hold a consistent pace right through to the end. The course was pretty flat with the occasional mini-slope here and there. Mile 12 was a bit odd though as it had a longer gradual climb. Mile 13 had a big downhill.
Took High 5 gels at 4 and 8 miles and they seemed to help.
It wasn't just me who measured the course as being long. You could hear loads of Garmins recording the mile splits early before the mile markers. I reckon they put the start line in the wrong place.
Pleased to run 1-44 though as I was looking for 1-46. Also pleased to finish feeling that there was still plenty in the tank.
