That time of year where I hit the old Yateley 10k and see how I do. Decided on a strategic race this year. Every year I get caught up in the nice big long downhill between 3 & 5km and then blow fantastically just after 8km. Not this year. I aimed for a negative split of about 18:25 for the first 5km and then balls-to-the-wall sub-18:20 for the second with a target time of somewhere around 36:45 in mind... this isn't a course I'd normally associate with a PB.
Well, things went to plan beautifully. 18:28 for the first 5k and then 18:06 for the second giving me a chip time of 36:34 (gun time 36:36), in 12th place and a new PB!!
It was brilliant to power past people in the second 5ks at precisely the points where I used to fade in this race.
Absolutely chuffed to bits to get a PB at Yateley. Gonna need to find another flatter 10k to see what I can really do.
