Dublin Marathon. Deep down knew that I probably wasn't good for sub-3, but hopefully not too far away (unlike VLM 2011), so 90 to halfway seemed like a reasonable plan (actual 90:10). Second half very tough there, but despite losing the gamble, pleased to make B goal of 3:05 (C was 3:10...) and lay the ghost of walking at VLM properly. Although some of those 7:30s felt not too far away from walking.
More calm and relaxed than usual this weekend, and certainly during race tried to relax more. But 90 for half was just a little too much, and suffered in that 15-19 stretch, despite it being net downhill. Mile 20 fecked me up properly, with its climb. Breezy at times, especially in face during 11-13, 16, and 19-21.
For next year (or next time...): 1st half is tougher, although it probably doesn't feel it at the time. Be even more relaxed about splits up to halfway. Need to make sure there's a good deal of energy saved in order to be able to take advantage of quick section 15-19 (I couldn't here). 20th mile is a sod. But then 21 to home is some downhill and some flat. Ought to be a negative split course.
570th-ish at halfway 369th at finish (and that's with a ropey second half..)
