Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Notes & Comments

NYE 10k. Caught between wanting to give a good account of myself and knowing that to push myself too hard today would be a retrograde step. Exploratory first km made it quite clear that the best I could hope for was a medium-fastish run. Legs were heavy from illness and cycling and chest was rattling, so I backed off and tried to keep PRE around the 7-8 mark. Refuelled c. 4k, at which point I realised I'd not eaten enough before the race and did actually perk up a bit. 9th km looks the worst but was actually "the hill". Passed quite a few people on that and in the final km. Finished relatively strongly and couldn't resist a bit of a sprint towards the end but just that little bit of effort left me feeling pretty grotty, so I'm glad I didn't try to push it throughout the race. Time is a season's best and also my best 10k for several years, and I wasn't racing, so I'm quite pleased with that. I know that there's a sub-50min 10k in me once I'm over this cold. So, all in all, not too bad. Notes for next time: I need a proper warm-up and to pay more attention to pre-race eating and drinking.

That's my highest mileage year ever and the first time I've managed 6 consecutive 100-mile months, so really pleased. Would have made my revised target of 1200 miles this year, too, if I hadn't been ill this week. Not too worried about that, though.
