Notes & Comments

Great Eastern Half Marathon at 10:10:10!!! Felt a little groggy in the morning as dad drove mum, Jon and myself into Peterborough. Rushing around to use the toilet before the start.

Once the race started, I actually went quicker than I felt I was and covered the first 3 miles in around 19.30. I went through 6 miles in under 40. I decided to give the drinks stop a miss at around halfway since I thought I was going ok. This was probably a mistake due to the warm conditions and I started to struggle coming up to 8 miles. At this point I thought that I was in with a chance of going under 1 hour 30 but then I started to wilt a little and my legs were getting tired. I took plenty of water on board at the next stop and tried to get mself back on track. At 11 miles I was on 1 hour 17 and thought that if I really tanked the last couple of miles then I'd do it. It wasn't to be though and I took it reasonably steady since I know that I didn't have it in me. I sprinted the last few hundred metres and finished in just under 1 hour 32 which I'm really pleased with.
