Notes & Comments

a good race, my first 7mile and first mixed terrain race.

coldish and drizzling, still battling a cold and niggling cough, not on my best form I would say but the flu drugs must have helped :)

a nice course, down the canal and thru woods. shame that the last section running around the Abbey was cut out due to an event taking place.
lovely venue and definately worth doing again :)

was running in my old Asics as I knew the mud would kill my nice pair :) heck I was right! but now I totally remember why I changed my trainers and I will never wear them again! I have blisters the size of yorkshire and the cushioning was non existent... even my ankles felt weaker, which tells me that the pronation correction actually is worthwhile me thinks.

was not feeling too good this morning, another long sleepless night caughing away, but I guess nothing is gained to stay in and not try.

I used the race as my sunday long run, not setting high expectations and really just wanted to complete it in under 1h20m which I thought I would struggle with. No Garmin to guide me on pace or time, off I go and I immediately struggle with my breathing (blocked nose aint helping! :) and very fast heart beat. Guess that's what your body does when you run with a feaver but they say that what doesnt kill you makes you stronger, and I am still alive, so I have done well :)
I set into my quiet steady stride and very quickly get separated by all but 3 other runners. I am the last of the group for a good 2 miles, the guy with the scottish pipining music at the back on his bike was really funny and the music kept me going for a while.

but time to put some effort in, feeling a little better and I detatch from the 3 others down the Canal and I leave a good 200m behind the other lady, and soon the bagpipes are gone too, so at least I will NOT be last :)
up and down trails and fields and muddy paths, not even the cows where out. but loads of very good marshalls along the way to point out the route and encourage us, nice atmosphere all around.
I was happy to see the 5 and then the 6 mile marker and very happy indeed when finally entered the Abbey grounds.

and as soon as I saw the Finish sign I gave it my best sprint and seeing the time I had to finish before another minute had passed!

I finished in 1hour 11minutes and 54seconds, a pretty good efford girl!
nice cake, tea, conversation and then a pint of shandy to finish off the whole event. a very good race all around :)
and to finish it all off, I am now single....
SiLeeds
well done
